GYMNASTICS TEAM COACH (Full Time) - Parks & Recreation JOB SUMMARY:Under general supervision of Gymnastics Center Head Coach/Manager, teach and/or coach individuals and/or groups of various sizes in the City’s year round gymnastics program. Assist with physical skill work with students as appropriate. Perform other related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Effectively teach/coach groups and/or individuals in the City’s gymnastics program. Assist with physical skill work with students as appropriate. Assist in lesson planning for team groups, coach training, special event planning, communication between team parents and coaching staff, travel arrangements for team competitions, organization of competitive seasons and hosted competitions. Must be able to develop technical skills and routines from USAG level 1 through level 10. Must be familiar with the Junior Olympic Code of Points and level requirements for USAG level 1 through 10. Communicate courteously and effectively with all other city employees, officials, patrons, and students. Enforce policies, procedures, and safety rules for the gymnastics program and its participants. Travel to and from gymnastics meets as required. Supervise large groups of participants both visually and audibly to ensure health/safety standards are implemented and maintained.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:May be required to carry, push, pull, drag and/or hold up to 30 pounds of furniture or equipment. Perform minor maintenance chores.REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:High School diploma or G.E.D. required, bachelor’s degree preferred. USA Gymnastics Professional membership and USA Gymnastics Safety Certification required. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:Four years USA Gymnastics Level 7 and up competitive coaching experience. Must have ability to teach and communicate effectively using whatever skills necessary, physical or otherwise. Must present required evidence of appropriate experience and background/ references. Must be able to demonstrate required ability/skill. Must be able to assist with physical skill work with students as appropriate. Must be able to maintain mental focus and function effectively during assigned work activities and work effectively in a team environment. Knowledge required of current gymnastics skills, teaching and spotting techniques, and USA Gymnastics routines.
