Technical Theater Specialist – Audio - Eisemann Center 


JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Assistant Technical Manager or designee, coordinates and supervises stage activities related to sound production. Coordinates work of and assists part-time house technicians, contract stagehands, and volunteers involved in the setup, operation, and striking of presentations in and around the Eisemann Center. Assists in assuring that stage labor and equipment needs are met appropriately and cost-effectively. Operates a computer and software effectively for reports and correspondence. Performs other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operates and trains staff on proper operation of the digital mixing consoles and portable speakers within the performance venues. When necessary, operates lighting control boards with lighting equipment, audio-visual equipment, video production and counterweight rigging systems, as well as oversees theatrical safety measures commensurate with industry best practices. Coordinates and oversees stage activities on assigned shifts. Contributes to setting operational policies and best practices. Enforces operational policies with performance groups. Coordinates production tasks, including but not limited to setup, performance, and strike. Provides labor assignments to stage personnel and volunteers on stage calls. Keeps accurate records of post event performance details.  Keeps accurate records of maintenance and repair of stage equipment. Communicates courteously and effectively with other employees, officials, performers, vendors, and the public. Operates a computer and software effectively for reports and correspondence. Lifts and/or carries up to 70 pounds of equipment occasionally and up to 40 pounds frequently and repeatedly. Climbs ladders and stairs, and works at platform heights up to 80 feet high. May assume responsibilities of supervisor in their absence. Weekend and evening work is required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May assist in facility maintenance tasks, overseeing maintenance contractors, or interfacing with City Facilities representatives for work being performed in the Eisemann Center.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
One (1) year of college required in Theatre Arts, Technical Direction, Sound Design or Audio Engineering, or related field. Equivalent training may be substituted for education requirement. Certificates in audio courses or rigging preferred. 

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Two (2) years of experience required as a theatrical technician, stagehand, technical director, stage manager, or related backstage position. Must have general knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre; additional specialized training in any specific disciplines of audio engineering, sound production, rigging, or video production preferred. Must have knowledge of audio equipment and best use practices. Must have good organizational and communication skills. Must be able to work well with other employees, the public, and performers. Must be computer literate in Windows-based operating systems. The candidate must be able to work from technical riders and specifications and read drawings and plans.
