This critically important position is also a key member of the Fire Chief’s executive leadership team. This is a non-sworn, at-will position reporting directly to the Fire Chief.

The annual salary range for the Fire Marshal is $157,955.28 - $210,163.20.
Placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Qualification Guidelines
Education
Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. A typical way to obtain qualifying experience would be:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Four years of qualifying experience may be substituted for two years of education.
Experience
Six years of progressively responsible experience in fire prevention, fire code enforcement, including three years of supervisory level experience.
Certificates
Certification as a Fire Inspector 2 by the State Fire Marshal (OFSM) or completion of the certificates required courses – OR – Certification as a Fire Protection Specialist by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OFSM). Equivalent certifications may be considered upon review.
Desirable
California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OFSM) Fire Marshal Certificate. California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Plan Examiner Certification.
