Job duties: The job duties involve but are not limited to; communication and interaction with clients placed on probation or bond supervision under the court’s jurisdiction; assisting clients in understanding and complying with the conditions of probation that have been placed on them; and assisting clients in identifying their needs and referring clients to appropriate community resources. The job duties require preparing presentence investigations; conducting Risk/Needs assessments; meeting with clients; accurately maintaining records of contacts with clients and of the case in general; monitoring court dockets; enforcing orders of the court; giving testimony; and organizing information for the transfer of supervision and or the arrest of a client who has violated probation. This position will work closely with individuals and agencies within the community in developing and using their resources; with law enforcement; and court staff. Work is performed independently or in teams under the general direction of the Chief Court Services Officer and is reviewed through meetings and evaluations of work performance.

Required education and experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in corrections, counseling, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, or a closely related field.

Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of human behavior and interpersonal relationships; knowledge of the English language and written communication format; organizational skills; confidentiality; and proofreading skills. The applicant should be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; can convey respect for the criminal offender; and the ability to use composure under stressful conditions. Knowledge of legal documents and the understanding of courtroom procedures.

Other information: All members of this classification are required to access criminal history record information (CHRI) through the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) or another criminal justice entity. Authorized access to KCJIS requires the employee to be: 1) a U. S. citizen; 2) at least 18 years of age, and 3) be able to pass a check for a record of criminal activity and criminal history as defined by the KCJIS Administrative Policy and Procedure Manual.
