THE POSITION
This is an hourly position, limited to working up to 29 hours per week or 1000 hours annually, whichever comes first. This position is non-benefited and is designated as a non-classified, at-will position.
City of Modesto is looking for Events Attendants! They are responsible to coordinate the needs and services of lessees during events at the Modesto Centre Plaza or other venues as assigned; to perform highly responsible job duties requiring strong organizational skills and sound judgment; and to oversee aspects of various events, activities, and personnel during various types of events as assigned.

Essential Functions
Serve as the liaison with lessees during events scheduled evenings and weekends.
Coordinate and oversee personnel during events.
Oversee the set-up and tear-down crews.
Oversee contracted and temporary staff.
May act as ”on-site” facility manager after regular business hours.
Respond to facility user complaints and inquiries.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Safe work practices.
Principles and techniques for planning, servicing, and coordinating a variety of theatrical, entertainment, meeting, banquet, and convention events.
Security, catering, concessions, equipment, services, and other operational needs of community/convention center events.
Ability To
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Learn fire and safety regulations and emergency procedures related to public assembly facilities.
Coordinate the activities of various service providers associated with community/convention center events.
Oversee events in progress.
Respond appropriately to guests within the context of community/convention center procedures while maintaining a high customer service ethic.
Identify and analyze potential problems, situations, and needs; accurately and quickly carry out solutions.
Lift and carry objects, as necessary.
Work irregular hours, as required.
Maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
Develop favorable public relations and maintain an appearance that projects a positive image.
Think clearly, quickly, and accurately in emergencies.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Experience And Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience
Some volunteer or paid work experience is desirable.
Some experience managing or coordinating large events (meetings, fund-raisers, conferences, etc.), providing support services such as catering, sound and lights, or decorations for large events, or working in public relations, promotions, or hotel restaurant management.
Training
High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Additional Requirements
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of application.
Physical And Mental Requirements
Mobility: frequent performance moderate manual labor; frequent sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, twisting, kneeling or squatting.
Lifting: frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Vision: constant use of overall vision.
Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching.
Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person.
Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone.
Environmental: occasional exposure to loud noises and large groups of people.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Conditions will vary depending on assignment. Work may also be performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis subject to street or field noise and year-round weather conditions. Position primarily works weekends, evenings and holidays. Overtime work and travel is rare.
SICK LEAVE: Employees employed with the City of Modesto for six (6) full pay periods or more receive sick leave credit at the rate of twenty-four (24) hours or three (3) days per calendar year, per AB 1522.
PUBLIC AGENCY RETIREMENT SERVICES ALTERNATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM PLAN (PARS ARS): Total contribution of 7.5% - employee pays 3.75% of wages (pre-tax) and the City pays 3.75%.
