Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs accessioning, analysis, and evaluation of evidence utilizing standardized and industry acceptable techniques.
- Analyzes evidence (biological or other) for the presence of drugs, alcohol, and other analytes and reports results.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment and quality control procedures.
- May conduct training instruction on lab procedures used by the laboratory.
- Prepares reagents and standards for use in analysis.
- Maintains lab and workspace cleanliness and organization.
- Provides technical and administrative review of analytical data and casework.
- May recommend changes to lab procedures.
- Participates in quality control monitoring of reagents, instrumentation, and processes.
- Maintains compliance with accreditation standards as directed.
- Prepares written reports and is prepared to testify at court proceedings.
- Performs other related duties involved in the operation of the Medical Examiner’s Office as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements

TO APPLY, must have a
Bachelor's degree or higher in Toxicology, Medical Technology, or related sciences.
TO APPLY, must have
Four (4) full-time years of work experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory or other applicable laboratory experience.
Note: Within Six (6) months of hire, must have a Texas license or provisional license as a
forensic analyst in the appropriate job-specific category .
Must possess the ability to use basic laboratory equipment, computer skills. Advanced laboratory instrumentation experience is preferred.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past Seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, climb, grasp, stoop, lift, push and pull. May be exposed to dangerous chemicals and blood borne pathogens. May be exposed to and handle firearms and explosives.
