Position Summary

The Bailiff provides assistance to the Judge and Court by conducting open court sessions, both remote and in person, and assisting in the operation of the court. *This is not a security/law enforcement position.* This position is in the Criminal Division's Court Processing Office. Hours for this position are 10a-6:30p, Monday through Friday, with an hour duty-free break. This may include holidays.

Position Responsibilities

  • May assist with court sessions.
  • Schedules court hearings on case management system; prepares the docket; monitors court files for pleadings and/or the Judge’s rulings; accurately and timely updates cases in case management system.
  • Assists judicial officers and staff during court proceedings, including: calling cases; monitoring the audio recording equipment; creating and maintaining log notes; accepting, marking and maintaining evidence.
  • Answers court telephones and responds to questions from court representatives and the general public.
  • Assists with effective management of the court calendar through confirmation of hearings with attorneys and stakeholders.
  • Assists with other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education beneficial. Proven accomplished computer skills required. The bailiff duties involve an extensive amount of computer entry, updating, and information research. Excellent organizational skills and strict attention to details are critical, with the ability to multi-task extremely beneficial. Exceptional communication skills are required, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.

Salary enhancements for bi-lingual skills in Spanish, ASL, Burmese, or Haitian Creole are available, as are salary enhancements for an Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree.

Marion County residency is required within six months of hire.
