The City of Goodyear is looking to fill the position of Parks and Recreation Director. The position will be responsible for planning, directing and organizing the activities and staff of the City's Parks and Recreation Department which includes park development, park maintenance, aquatics, sports, recreation programs, spring training facilities and outdoor conservation programs. Position requires a minimum of seven (7) years experience in parks/recreation management. Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field, which is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree, though experience may substitute for the required education. Position requires a valid AZ Driver's License. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelors Degree in Parks Administration, Recreation or a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years experience in parks and recreation management, including supervisory experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will posses experience working with community parks and recreation boards and commissions along with professional registration in national parks and recreation associations. The ideal candidate would have experience managing major league baseball training facilities. Employees holding a position of Department Director and above shall reside in the City, upon completion of the initial trial period and prior to obtaining full-time regular status.EXAMINATION PROCESS Only a limited number of the most highly qualified applicants meeting the City’s requirements will be invited for an interview. Director of Parks and Recreation First Year Objectives
Provide guidance and leadership to the newly created Parks and Recreation Department.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department heads, management, and elected officials.
Work with new Stadium Manager to provide input on the design and construction of Spring Training Ballpark.
Evaluate the Parks and Recreation Department program offerings and make recommendations to increase programs, particularly those designed to serve senior adults.
Develop formal quality and maintenance standards for all parks and facilities.
Oversee the development and implementation of events and programs at the new spring training ballpark to provide year-round use.
Establish an inspection program that will ensure the new quality and maintenance standards are achieved and maintained.
Develop best management practices related to the City's urban forest.
Implement a Computerized Maintenance Management System for tracking and coordinating maintenance and operational activities.
Monitor and manage the department budget to ensure that fiscal constraints are maintained.
Maintain a team-oriented environment throughout the department.
