What We Need
The Town of Harrisburg currently has an employment opportunity in our Parks and Recreation Department for a Recreation Coordinator. An employee in this class plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises athletic programs for primarily older or younger youth in the community. Work includes promoting, organizing, recruiting and training coaches and officials, forming teams, scheduling games and practices, coordinating and purchasing uniforms, equipment and supplies, ensuring proper supplies and equipment at each game, providing oversight for games, and handling and resolving problems with coaches, players and parents. Work involves considerable planning and scheduling of activities and contact with participants, coaches, officiating personnel, and volunteers. Employee will develop rules, policies, and other regulations to ensure safe, effective and enjoyable programming that maintains public acceptance. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and policies and requires judgment and discretion in the application and interpretation of programs, game rules, and procedures. Work also includes providing support for logistics and programming efforts for special events such as securing sponsors and vendors, map layout, setup, on-site representation at events and other related assistance for large events. Considerable public contact is involved in addressing concerns of parents, maintaining relationships with school administrators where games are held, training volunteers, encouraging and building confidence in youth who participate, and addressing unacceptable behavior at the games. Employee is subject to hazards in parks and recreation including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to the hazards of motorized equipment. Duties may also expose the employee to human body fluids, and the work is covered by the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Manager and is evaluated in terms of program effectiveness, and through observation, discussions, and public acceptance and feedback.
Desireable Candidate
Requires graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation administration or closely related degree and considerable experience in sports, recreation and/or athletics management, preferably in a municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 3-5 years of relevant work experience.

The hiring range is $50,308 - $62,579 and starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Will also be eligible for $2,500 sign-on bonus upon hire.
