#### Position Description
- LOCATION:**Queen Anne's County, Maryland
**JOB SUMMARY**
The Animal Care Technician is responsible for the daily care and treatment of animals brought to the shelter.Duties include kennel maintenance, custodial care, medication administration, and maintaining a disease-free environment for the animals.Position reports directly to the Animal Care Manager.
- SCHEDULE:**Sunday and Monday, 8AM-6PM.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
Provide adequate food and water to shelter animals.
Administer medications to all shelter animals on prescriptions.
Follow established protocols for cleaning of all animal areas.
Monitor all shelter animals for mental and physical well-being.
Assist in animal intakes, which includes vaccinations, blood draw and performing a basic physical exam.
Assist the medical team with filling prescriptions for shelter animals.
Provide daily animal enrichment and training.
Maintain up to date records in Shelter database.
Treat all shelter animals with compassion and respect.
Maintain Animal Services facilities in a safe working environment.
Operate washing machine and other appliances.
Address any structural concerns to the Animal Care Manager.
Project and maintain a positive image with the public and peers.
Show adoptable animals to potential adopters.
Provide cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.
Participate in shelter events.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
Possession of a Class C Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (or the equivalent from another issuing state) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) days of employment to position.
Become Fear Free Certified within 6 months of employment.
**NIMS TRAINING**
The following National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training is required within the first year of employment:

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
High School Diploma or equivalent; Experience in animal sheltering preferred.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.; This position requires you to stand for long periods of time.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
Exposure to loud working environment (barking dogs in dog kennels); Exposed to zoonosis diseases (Ringworm, Rabies, Intestinal parasites); Exposure to fractious and aggressive animals; May work outdoors in varying weather to include heat, cold and wet conditions.
**COMMENTS**
This position has been designated as an ESSENTIAL POSITION and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons.
An employee in this position may be required to work shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays and/or remain on standby for a call back to work.
Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules.
This position is one within the Queen Annes C unty Civil Service System.An employee must serve a period of twelve months probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.
