Description

Under the supervision of the Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Coordinator performs specialized, professional work in the development, implementation, and promotion of the City’s sustainability policies and programs. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating sustainability initiatives and programs, providing outreach and education to internal and external stakeholders, and managing data and metrics. The Sustainability Coordinator will support the Sustainability Manager to advance environmental, social, and economic sustainability within the City.

Examples of Duties

  • Develops, implements, and reports on sustainability programs and policies, including waste reduction, climate resilience, greenhouse gas monitoring, and energy conservation.
  • Designs and delivers public outreach and educational materials, including social media content, brochures, presentations, and reports.
  • Organizes and participates in both internal and community events, workshops, and training sessions to promote sustainability initiatives.
  • Collects, analyzes, and visualizes sustainability-related data for reporting, program evaluation, and decision-making.
  • Creates and maintains sustainability dashboards, ArcGIS Story Maps, and other digital tools to track metrics and publish progress of the Sustainability Action Plan. 
  • Researches and makes recommendations on best practices, policies, and innovative solutions in sustainability, climate adaptation, and environmental management.
  • Collaborates with City departments, regional partners, and community organizations to integrate sustainability principles into municipal operations and policies.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, grant applications, and funding proposals for sustainability-related projects.
  • Conducts administrative tasks such as scheduling, file management, and coordinating sustainability meetings and projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Ecosystem Science, Geography, Public Health, Sustainability, Political Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Must demonstrate (2) years of experience developing and implementing sustainability and resilience related programs, public outreach, data management, plans and policies, or closely related experience. 
  • Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education.
  • LEED Accreditation, GIS Certification, Climate or Sustainability-related Professional Certifications (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with GIS, StoryMaps, PowerBI, or similar (preferred but not required).  
  • Broward County resident preferred, but not required.
