The Fleet Management Department is recruiting for an Equipment Parts Specialist II. Under direction of the parts supervisor, this position will assist the parts team and supervisor to perform lead duties in parts warehouse operations. Duties may include but are not limited to: researches, orders, prepares, receives, and issues parts on work orders for a wide variety of equipment; negotiates best prices for parts and warranties; maintains computerized inventory systems and parts stock levels; locates vehicle and equipment parts, as needed.  Assists in inventory control, cyclical and weekly inventories and adjusts automated inventory data.

The Department
 

Fleet Management Department provides services for the majority of county vehicles and equipment. Services include the acquisition, maintenance, repair, modification, and disposal of vehicles and other related equipment. The department also operates its main garage in San Bernardino, along with the following shops: light duty (cars and pickup trucks), heavy duty (large trucks and other equipment), welding/metal fabrication, parts room, fueling stations, and several "service centers."

Additionally, the department operates a motor pool, which has ownership and/or maintenance responsibility for approximately 1,900 automobiles, vans, pick-up trucks, and various specialty vehicles assigned to county departments.  The Motor Pool oversees replacement, fuel, maintenance, repair and other operational funding of fleet vehicles.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

Physical: Incumbents must be physically able to lift 50 pounds, stand, bend, squat, kneel, twist, turn, and stoop. Employees work outside continuously and are exposed to electricity, chemicals, heat, oil, odors, dust, gas, and noise.

Tools: Incumbents must have their own hand tools. An annual tool allowance of $550 is provided on July 1st.

Shift: Incumbents may be required to work day, evening, or night shifts, to meet departmental needs.

License: Must possess a valid California Class C driver license at time of hire. Based on assignment, incumbents must obtain and maintain a valid California Class B driver license. Indicate CA license number, class, and expiration date on Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider to candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Minimum Requirements

Two (2) years of lead experience in vehicle services and parts, including repair and maintenance for automobiles, heavy-duty trucks, and equipment. Responsibilities included parts research, costing, delivery, inventory management (stocking, retrieval, and tracking).

Desired Qualifications

Experience in conducting research on specifications and ordering automobile, heavy-duty trucks and equipment parts for maintenance and repair is highly desirable.  Forklift experience and knowledge using Fleet Management Systems are also desirable.
