Description

Under general direction of the Electrical Transmission & Distribution Supervisor, the Electrical Transmission & Distribution Foreman is a working foreman position that provides leadership, supervision, and training for the Transmission/Distribution (T&D) line crew and participates in the maintenance, construction, and operation of the Electrical T&D Systems.  

Principal Duties

  1. Supervise, coordinate, and participate in, the work of crews responsible for construction, maintenance, and repairs of electrical overhead and underground systems. Oversee day to day field activities, provide guidance and leadership on assigned jobs, and report work progress for assigned crew.
  2. Participate directly in on-site construction, maintenance, operation, and service activities including on call rotation; perform trouble shooting and fault identification to determine nature of problems and make corrections; and determine equipment and materials needed for each assignment.
  3. Responsible for the accuracy of time reporting for assigned crew, maintaining and updating records, and providing information related to employees, work activities, materials, equipment, mapping, and budget.
  4. Assist in the resolution of internal and external conflicts, complaints, and problems; and communicate effectively with superiors, co-workers, other City employees, governmental agencies, the general public, and others contacted in the course of work.  
  5. Responsible for skill development, on-the-job training, and safety instruction for assigned crew; actively monitor work to ensure safe working conditions are maintained and duties are performed in accordance with safety protocols, procedures and processes as identified in the departmental safety manual, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  6. Facilitate the lineman apprentice training program and evaluate apprentices’ progression to the next level. 
  7. Assist supervisor with evaluating employee performance as delegated; make recommendations to improve work and system processes; and act on behalf of the supervisor, as needed.
  8. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:      
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, and six (6) years of experience in electrical distribution field, including one (1) year experience in a lead lineman position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Class “A” CDL with airbrake endorsement issued by the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain within 90 days from date of hire. Department of Labor Journeyman Lineman certification or equivalent. Knowledge of materials used in the Electrical T&D Industry. Must maintain a residence within a 40-minute response time of the Utility Service Center within six (6) months of accepting position. Available to work on-call, emergency response, weekends, and evenings. Ability to perform essential duties in an environment that entails a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; working at heights of up to 100’ above ground level; frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, and pushing/pulling; using hoist and dollies to lift and move heavy objects; and physically lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
