Provides basic security and conducts routine screening of persons entering court facility. This position reports to the Municipal Court Administrator and has frequent contact with the general public, other departmental employees, legal oficials, and law enforcement officers.

Essential Duties*
Performs entrance control by enforcing the building entry and identification system which includes operating security screening equipment to detect weapons, contraband and prohibited items; checking items such as handbags, briefcases, computers, packages, baby carriages, wheel chairs, etc.
Directs individuals to appropriate locations in the court.
Stands guard at assigned post while court is in session.
Responsible for security courtroom when unattended, inspection of courtroom prior to proceeding, testing of electronic security devices and other duties concerning security of the court area.
May perform roving patrol of court facilities and grounds.
Court Security Officer will dress appropriately for the position presenting neat and clean appearance at all times.
Court Security Officer will not carry a firearm.
Court Security Officer does not restrain individuals or intervene in potentially volatile situations but rather summons the on-duty Warrant Officer to handle these situations.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ideal candidates will obtain knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including use of personal computer for purposes of record-keeping and reporting, while having working knowledge of local and state court rules. Candidates should be familiar with electronic securty scanning equipment. This position also requires the ability to communicate effectively in English (English/Spanish bilingual preferred), perform job duties politely and accurately in stressful situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, members of the legal profession, and the general public; communicate, and understand, explain, interpret and apply rules, regulations, directives and procedures.
Acceptable Experience And Training
High school graduation, or its equivalent and previous law enforcement, military police or security experience preferred.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, able to successfully able to pass pre-employment drug screen and must be physically able to perform the essential job functions.
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish preferred
Valid Texas Driver License is required.
Starting Pay: $20.00/hour
