Description
Repairs and maintains airport buildings, equipment, and grounds maintenance. Must have experience operating tractors or other large and small mechanical equipment and experience in building repair and grounds maintenance work. Candidates must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license, three years of acceptable driving experience and must obtain a Commercial driver’s license within ninety days of employment. The successful candidate must successfully complete all employment requirements, including drug and alcohol screens, police records check and employment background check.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- Performs mechanical maintenance work on airport buildings, facilities and equipment;
- Performs responsible electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance work in the repair and maintenance of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems;
- Performs minor vehicle repairs;
- Performs routine security of the buildings and grounds at the airport and report unusual observations to supervisor and/or E-911;
- Performs regularly scheduled inspections of airport perimeter access points and responds to automated security alarms;
- Operates FAA and City radios;
- Responds to FAA control tower calls for deer/animal sightings and trash in the air operations area;
- Repairs, inspects and maintains terminal/airport security systems;
- Operates tractor or other large and small mechanical equipment and cleans runways, roadways and sidewalks during snow removal;
- Performs general laboring and custodial tasks;
- Maintains time, material and work order records.
Additional Duties
- Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- When unusual situations occur and /or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Education And Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and some experience in building repair and grounds maintenance work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
Commercial driver's license required within 90 days of employment.
Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
Successful completion of all FAA employment requirements, including drug and alcohol screens, police records check, employment background check, etc.
