Job Summary

SUMMARY

Assists the crew of building maintenance workers in cleaning and setting up the Convention Center for events. Work is evaluated on basis of adherence to instructions and actual results.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs more difficult assignments in the layout set-up for Convention Center activities.
  • Sweeps, mops, waxes, buffs and vacuums floors, stairs and office space.
  • Empties trash and garbage containers.
  • Notifies supervisor concerning needs for repairs to Convention Center building, equipment, and/or inventory.
  • Supervises the work of the full time and casual labor maintenance workers.
  • Transports freight and furniture through operations of a forklift.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly assists supervisor with five (5) to fifteen (15) employees in building maintenance. 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies. 
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with two (2) years' experience performing setup for various facility users; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: 


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, equipment, and safety regulations. 
  • Ability to operate and train others on forklift. 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Supplemental Information

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
