Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Simulation, support the general operations of the Simulation Lab. Prepare and/or operate simulation laboratory and associated equipment, medical simulators, computers, audio-visual equipment. Prepare the appropriate and proper amount of materials and equipment necessary to effectively teach and evaluate each student during the simulated experience (SE). Provide technical and general support during SE's, and clean up manikin(s), equipment and supplies after SEs.
Required Qualifications:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the instruction of healthcare-related education, providing appropriate simulated experiences that presents the student learning objectives outlined for the simulation, and provides debriefing opportunities and constructive feedback to students and/or faculty when requested.
- Prepare manikin(s) and/or standardized patients, equipment and supplies for upcoming simulation scenarios for the various programs as scheduled according to the written requests, ensuring each lab has the proper equipment and supplies for each student as requested.
- Assist with monitoring day-to-day activities in the Simulation Center and maintains a safe environment during the simulated experiences.
- Ensure evaluation of Simulated Experience (SE) forms are completed either on-line or on paper by students and/or attending faculty members after completion of SE.
- Ensure Simulation labs, Simulation offices and files are adequately secured on a daily basis and all personnel information is maintained with strictest confidentiality.
- Assist with the use and maintenance of the SynDaver manikins and equipment.
- Assist with maintaining an oxygen reserve for the building system, as well as individual oxygen bottles. This would include all compressed gases used in the health science programs.
- Assist with research, data collection, purchase recommendations and implementation of new simulation systems, including virtual reality systems.
- Assist with providing tours of the health science programs to various groups as scheduled.
- Assist with maintenance of equipment, assist with troubleshooting operations, and generate reports on missing or broken equipment and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of operations and functions of manikins, computers, various software applications, medical equipment and audio-video system and components with ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise
- Knowledge of healthcare practices (basic and advanced clinical knowledge and experience) and skills pertaining to various healthcare disciplines, including appropriate treatments, related medications, ethics and HIPPA laws
- Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology
- Knowledge of scenario development and implementation, including supplies and equipment needed to perform simulations
- Knowledge of instruction techniques and methods with ability to deliver quality instructional presentations
- Knowledge of compressed gas systems
- Technical and mechanical skills to competently operate and maintain all equipment in the simulation lab, experience in working with different types of biomedical instrumentation (ECG monitors, ventilators, etc.)
- Proficiency with PC and relevant software applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Creativity
- Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through on assignments to completion
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation, circumstances and facts at hand
- Ability to stay up to date and revise course content and teaching methodology in order to maintain current working knowledge
- Ability to quickly learn new technology, additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment and train students, faculty and staff
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by interacting and working effectively with other faculty, staff, students and vendors in a positive, helpful, courteous and cooperative working relationship
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, both verbal and written
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as the need arises
Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, plus climbing and balancing. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, chemicals and oils. Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Occasional physical effort required.
Requirements
Associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution required.
Two (2) years of directly related work experience in the chosen healthcare clinical field of practice required.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field from an accredited institution
Two (2) years of teaching experience at community college level, preferably in health care education
Experience with simulation technology or education, Mac computers, audio and visual equipment and inventory experience
Licenses and Certifications
Current credential in a health care profession that involves direct patience care.
Current Texas license or certification as required for the health occupation field of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification preferred.
Pediatric advanced Life Support (PALS) provider preferred.
BLS / ACLS / PALS Instructor certification preferred.

Compensation is determined based on experience.
