The City of Surprise is seeking an Art in Public Places Coordinator who is passionate about supporting creative experiences that build a sense of place, bring the community together, and reflect on the culture and identity of a community. This position will work to improve existing programs and create new art programs for the public. Ideal candidates will have an interest in and commitment to the creative process and working collaboratively with the community, artists, partners, and colleagues. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of or experience with the creative process, managing public art projects from ideation to installation, developing programs for local artists, and coordinating education and outreach initiatives. They will work in coordination with the Sports and Tourism Director, Arts and Culture Manager, and the Surprise Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission.


SUMMARY
This position is responsible for coordination of the art in public places program. Responsibilities include project management of public art projects, overseeing maintenance of existing art collection, coordination of City-managed galleries, project budget tracking, and event management for community outreach programs. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in visual arts, arts administration, design, arts education, urban planning, public policy or other degree related to the core functions of this position, plus two (2) years of experience related to administrating, coordinating and managing public art projects and/or cultural events. Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.
