Information Session: Interested candidates are invited to an information session to learn more about the expectations for the Deputy Fire Chief role, as well as selection process preparation. The information session will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 1:00pm at 1541 Second Street, Napa, CA 94559.   • June 20, 2025 - Application Submittal Period Opens
  • June 24, 2025 - Information Session
  • July 1, 2025 - Application Submittal Period Closes (Applications due by 11:59 PM)
  • July 9, 2025 - Deputy Fire Chief Testing Process
  • July 21, 2025 - Civil Service Commission Meeting
  • July 23, 2025 - Chief's Interview

Ideal candidates for the Deputy Fire Chief role will have a record of successfully demonstrating the following:

  • Technical Knowledge and Skills - Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in functional areas related to fire operations procedures/practices and emergency scene operations.
  • Emotional Intelligence - Establishing and sustaining trusting relationships by accurately perceiving and interpreting own and others' emotions and behavior; leveraging insights to effectively manage own responses so that one's behavior matches one's values and delivers intended results.
  • Interpersonal Communications - Develops and maintains effective relationships with others; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and in different situations; shows understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness.
  • Continuous Learning / Self-Development - Actively identifying new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learning through their application.

This recruitment and examination is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and may be used to fill future full-time vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list. The active status of this employment list will be at least six (6) months unless abolished sooner or extended beyond that date in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.
