Examples of Duties

The building and or combination Inspector performs onsite technical inspections in the following disciplines: building construction, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy and electrical. Inspections are performed to verify compliance with the applicable adopted codes and the building department approved plans.   Additionally, an inspector may perform plan reviews and provide office support including plan change review, permit application intake, general contractor support and enquiries.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment. 
  • Three to five years construction experience and the ability to attain an ICC Building Inspector certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Plumbing and Mechanical ICC certifications are highly desirable and will be required within 12 months of employment
  • A minimum Electrical Journeyman’s License from the Colorado State’s Electrical Board is required for electrical inspector applicants. 
  • Electrical inspectors are expected to gain additional building, plumbing and mechanical certifications within 12 months of employment
