Description

The City of West Allis is seeking an experienced and visionary marketing and communications professional to serve as our Marketing Director. This individual will lead the development and execution of dynamic marketing campaigns designed to resonate with our diverse audience and enhance community engagement.

As a key member of our leadership team, the Marketing Director will play a critical role in advancing the City’s vision of becoming the preferred community in the Metropolitan Milwaukee Area.

Examples of Duties

The Marketing Director plays a critical role in promoting effective communication, building a strong city brand, and enhancing citizen engagement within the local community. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of communication, marketing, and engagement strategies for the city, ensuring a consistent and positive image is projected to residents, businesses, and visitors. Additionally, this position oversees the operations of the Farmers Market, Tourism Commission, and Cable Communications.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, social media, or other relevant areas—performing duties related to this position, including at least five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in social media management, graphic design, the public sector, strategic internal communications, and organizational staff development is preferred.
  • Direct supervisory experience, including evaluating and disciplining employees.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Direct experience with change management, as well as project development and implementation.
  • Strong leadership, direct management, communication, and human relations skills are required.
  • A master’s degree in public administration or business administration is desirable.

Any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be considered. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license is required upon appointment and must be maintained throughout tenure.

SELECTION PROCESS: The first step in the selection process will be a phone screen. Qualified candidates will undergo interviews and evaluations of job-related experience, including written, oral, and performance tests, or other assessment methods. The City reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to the oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Final candidate selection will be completed by the Common Council. Successful candidates are subject to an extensive background check (including, but not limited to, verification of education credentials, certificates, licensures; employment history; credit check; driver’s license and police criminal background check) and must pass a post-offer drug screen as a condition of employment. Applications will be kept confidential as permitted by law; however all finalists are subject to public release.
