The St. Cloud Public Works Department is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill the role of Traffic Systems Manager.The Traffic Systems Manager performs traffic engineering work that includes transportation projects and the operation of traffic systems. The position requires both an understanding of the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of traffic engineering to provide a safe and efficient roadway system. The position requires excellent communication skills with administration, engineers, consultants, and the general public.
Examples of duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide guidance to staff, engineers, administration, and consultants on traffic engineering related projects.
- Provide quick responses to traffic related concerns to general public and administration.
- Provide comprehensive traffic related reports and studies to administration and engineers for traffic related issues.
- Coordinate traffic engineering related projects with local, state and federal agencies.
- Collaborate with staff, managers, administration, engineers, consultants, and the general public.
- Quickly respond to emergency traffic signal, roadway lighting or storm related situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in traffic or transportation engineering, public works, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising traffic operations
- Valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license. License must be unrestricted except for corrective lenses
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Pay: The 2025 base Traffic Systems Manager hiring rate is $44.95 per hour. The salary range is $93,499 - $125,701.
- Employee and Family Healthcare: The city is proud to provide a compensative healthcare package which includes single insurance covered 100% by the employer and family covered 90%. Additional health & dental information is available upon request. Family health insurance premiums are valued at an average of $25,560 annually. Many voluntary benefits, including disability and flexible spending accounts, are also offered.
- Retirement: An excellent retirement pension plan is provided by the city through the Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA). The employee contributes 6.5% of wages, and the city contributes 7.5% of gross salary, equaling a total contribution of 14%. Additional retirement plans are available in the form of a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, as a deduction from pay.

- Education, Development and Training: Education, development, and training is encouraged by the department and may be funded for the employee through an Education Plan.
