Responsible for analysis of short term and long-term Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) energy markets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 DUTIES

  • Collaborate with energy management internal and external stakeholders to assist in delivering reliable wholesale energy supplies to Denton Municipal Electric (DME) at competitive prices, including analysis of short through long-term serving requirements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of DME’s wholesale energy operating strategies inclusive of scheduling and bidding; provide information and recommendations on issues impacting DME.
  • Evaluate, research, and provide recommendations for the development, implementation, and integration of market tools to analyze the ERCOT wholesale energy market consisting of complex programs and algorithms.
  • Conduct analysis of future market impacts due to Nodal Protocols Revision Requests (NPRRs).
  • Lead and perform analyses to project market trends based on current and future market conditions and operations. 
  • Conduct research, provide technical expertise, and participate in the ERCOT market design and development process.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain complex analyses and reports including, but not limited to, analysis from database queries completed from products and/or publications. 
  • Stay up to date on energy management fundamentals including, but not limited to, market modeling, energy analytics, and back-cast analysis.
  • Maintain familiarity with ERCOT’s Nodal Protocols and financial settlement concepts.
  • Compile data and information for internal and external stakeholders; assist with presentations and backup documentation, as needed.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or related field; and,
  • Five (5) years’ experience in ERCOT market including the wholesale market (Zonal/Nodal), or related field, 
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.

  • Knowledge of wholesale fuel, electric markets, and ERCOT evolving industry and regulatory developments.
  • Knowledge of systems and programs used to forecast, evaluate, and transact business in the wholesale energy markets.
  • Knowledge of technical requirements for electric system operations and planning.
  • Skill in analyzing and researching, to interpret and understand policies, laws, and regulations, and to provide workable recommendations and solutions that maintain compliance.
  • Skill in complex problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 
  • Skill at the advanced level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work. 
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers. 
  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events to ensure process improvement and compliance. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

SAFETY 

  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs. 
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to leadership.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 20 pounds and carrying up to 10 pounds. 
  • Environment: Works in an office setting office and environmentally controlled areas; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. 
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
