Library Assistant - Youth Services The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant to work under the direction of the Manager of Youth Services to provide support for key library efforts with youth. The successful applicant will work with staff on the Star City Reads initiative to maximize community participation and contributions, while focusing on campaign goals set forth in the community solutions action plan. Responsibilities include working with the Director of Libraries and Youth Services to oversee volunteers, program planning and reports. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and education on early and childhood literacy preferred. Technical experience in data entry, Excel, and PowerPoint required

SUMMARY
Performs clerical work in the public library system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Maintains files and records
Assists the public in the use of library facilities
Locates books, magazines, and other materials as requested
Provides general library information
Examines shelves and replaces incorrectly shelved books
Inspects and repairs library materials
Processes and labels materials for circulation
Orders and maintains inventory
Prepares library materials for circulation, bindery, and withdrawal from library collections
Assists staff with Youth and Adult programs
Performs duties as assigned, such as security monitoring
May require evening and weekend hours of work

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
