Job Summary

Perform work in a specialized accounting area focusing on grants, leases, and subscription-based IT arrangements (SBITA). Supports grant administration and compliance, with backup responsibilities related to capital assets including both non-routine and routine professional accounting duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with revenues and expenditures related to grants, leases, SBITAs, and projects, reconciles discrepancies, and assists grant, lease, SBITA, and project managers on accounting issues. 

  • Maintains and verifies financial, statistical, or other fiscal records in connection with various local, regional, state, and federal grants.

  • Provides guidance on grants, and guides department staff on grant regulations and use of grant funding.

  • Assists departments in planning, evaluating, and/or administering leases, grants, SBITAs, and projects. Assists with accounting for leases and SBITA in accordance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

  • Creates and assists with grants, leases, SBITAs, projects databases and accounting systems ensuring proper reporting and accounting.

  • Monitors receipt and usage of revenues to assure compliance with Grant Funding stipulations, activities, and financial compliance of state and federal grants received by the County including sub-recipient awards, if necessary. 

  • Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • 3+ years progressively responsible experience in governmental financial accounting or finance, including at least one year of grant accounting.

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

Knowledge Of:

  • Professional and technical writing methods and practices. 

  • Project management principles, practices, and methods. 

  • Fiscal and budgetary management and tracking. 

  • Organizational and community planning. 

  • Administrative principles and practices to include goal setting and program budget development and implementation.  

Skill In:

  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations.

  • Working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

  • Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines. 

  • Developing, understanding, interpreting, and communicating policies and procedures. 

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
