General Summary
Under the direction of the County Administrator, directs and coordinates all-large scale emergency/disasters that occur in the county including natural, technological, nuclear, and civil defense hazards. Develops, organizes, directs, implements, and communicates plans and activities to support a broad centralized emergency management program. Ensures effective responses to emergency events, allowing maximum physical and financial recovery. Ensures that all key elected and other officials are notified of an emergency situation. Supervises a staff engaged in developing and updating emergency response plans and providing training to emergency workers.
Employment Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science, planning, emergency management, public safety, or related field with specific coursework/seminars in emergency preparation and management. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Four years of experience in emergency preparedness including experience in coordinating the planning efforts of multiple political jurisdictions. Supervisory experience required.
Other Requirements: Valid Driver’s license. State certificate as a Professional Emergency Manager is desirable.
