About the Role
The Street & Parks Superintendent provides strategic direction and operational leadership over both the Streets and Parks Divisions, ensuring the reliable operation, beauty, and safety of Vail’s public spaces and infrastructure. This position directs major functional areas such as:
Comprehensive snow & ice removal operations in one of the nation’s most prominent ski resort communities
Pavement management, storm drainage, signage, traffic control, and right-of-way maintenance
Year-round parks, landscaped areas, irrigation systems, playgrounds, trails, and open space management
Flower beds, community beautification, and pedestrian & multimodal infrastructure
Capital project planning and execution
Budget development and oversight
Equipment lifecycle management
Environmental compliance and safety leadership
High-level communication with contractors, residents, staff, and elected officials

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field preferred
Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible public works, construction, or maintenance experience
Supervisory experience strongly preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered
Licenses & Certifications
Class A CDL within 3 months of hire
Ability to pass federally mandated drug and alcohol testing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Expertise in snow/ice operations, pavement and asset management, parks and grounds
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Ability to manage large, complex budgets and capital programs
Strong knowledge of MUTCD, safety standards, and environmental regulations
Ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and build a positive culture
Willingness to respond to emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays
