The purpose of this position is to provide safe, functioning equipment and fleet vehicles to the City of Globe. This position inspects, maintains, and records equipment and fleet vehicles, in addition to maintaining a clean safe drug and alcohol-free work environment. Grade 18, step 2.
- Provide department operational support including but not limited to purchasing, budgeting, procurement, scheduling, coordination, or financial activities.
- Provide administrative support as requested in any project management, inspection, or field activities, including all Fleet reports.
- Perform comprehensive vehicle safety inspections and preventive maintenance, perform mechanical repairs, rebuild small line and heavy line equipment, and some welding and fabrication.
- Ability to supply own basic mechanic tools.
- Must be able to communicate verbally as well as written reports, must be able to work in a team environment with safety as top priority.
- Tests and diagnostic repairs on all City vehicles and equipment, including hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, drivability and safety of emergency equipment, small equipment, road equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Aids with shop clean up, shop maintenance, this includes but is not limited to sweeping the shop, moping the shop, as well as fueling equipment and delivering vehicles as needed.
- Able to attend, pass and maintain any certifications provided by the City.
- Occasionally work On-Call hours
- Must be able to work with Department of Corrections inmates
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Four years of automotive experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Technical school training in automotive repair is preferred and/or trade certifications are desirable.
- Must maintain an Arizona Class D driver’s license.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- ASE Certified or Vendor Specific Certifications
- Certified in RTA Fleet or like programs
- Leadership training and or experience
- Understanding service manuals and schematic drawings
- Ability to work as a lead mechanic
- Certification in major mechanical systems and modern vehicle repair or equivalent
- Ability to work on diesel engines
- Certification in brakes, steering, drivability and electrical Systems
- Customer service, operating and understanding scan tools and electronic diagnostic tools
- Ability to read and understand manuals and schematics. Both electronic and printed versions
- Problem solving skills using deductive reasoning
- Ability to follow direction verbally as well as written
- Basic welding skills preferred
- Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of engines, mechanical parts and mechanisms.
- Experience with mechanical hand tools including wrenches and screwdrivers, pumps, and welders.
- Experience with air powered tools, jacks and lifting devices such as cranes, pressure washers, drill press.
- Computer skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, City customers, and the general public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making authorized decisions.
