About Us
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
Description Of Work
Salary Range: $55,823 - $97,689 Annually
Positions in this class perform a range of public information and public relations related work in a state agency. Work includes delivering promotional and informational materials through a variety of information media. Positions are responsible for the interpretation and dissemination of program specific information through a variety of information mediums in order to stimulate interest in programs.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities/Management Preferences
Management Preferences:
- Thorough knowledge of journalistic, communication, and/or publication principles and practices
- Experience of the techniques of disseminating information to the public through a variety of news media
- Ability to write according to correct English usage and accepted standards of magazine and press publications
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of press, radio, and television and other persons contacted in the course of work
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media, journalism, English, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience.
