NOTE: THIS IS A NON-CIVIL SERVICE POSITION
The County of Maui, Department of Housing, Federal Housing Programs Division, is seeking a Housing Specialist to help manage and support the administration of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program.
Responsibilities will include but is not limited to:Responsible for the case management of families on the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program. Determines applicant eligibility. Schedules and conducts meetings with applicant and participant families, advising them of their responsibilities under the Program and explaining Program guidelines. Completes annual renewals, provides information to participants and landlords, and ensures that Program rules and regulations are followed. Pursues and investigates potential fraud/program abuse cases. Completes rent computations and determines tenants’ share of rent and amount of subsidy for program participants based on established HUD guidelines.
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications; however, comparable training and experience may be considered as a substitution.
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, political science, sociology, psychology, or related field or 2 years professional experience in program dealing with social services, health, or education. Strong oral and writing skills are required.
