The Department of Assessments has Administrative Specialist III positions in our Accounting and Commercial Divisions. These positions serve a vital role in meeting our mission of ensuring fair and equitable property tax administration and values. The roles involve providing technical, administrative, and customer support to the public and seniors applying for exemptions, as well as supporting Business Personal Property Administration. The ability to be flexible, adapt to a changing daily routine, and process a large volume of daily work while maintaining a production schedule, all while in a hybrid environment. This position features heavy communication by phone and in person with taxpayers. Daily interaction with staff and the public requires collaborative, analytical, customer service, and application processing and research skills. The successful applicant who accepts this position will work a 4-day per week schedule, 8.75 hours per day schedule for thirty-five (35) hours per week.

THE OPPORTUNITY: These positions will be the Administrative Specialist III in the Accounting, Appeals, and Commercial Divisions. Reporting to the Assessment Unit Supervisors, Chief Appraiser, or the Personal Property Unit Supervisor, the responsibilities of the Administrative Specialist III position include: The successful candidate will: - Strong background in administrative support, principals & practice.
- Solid analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a collaborative, team-centered environment.
- Strong customer focus with a dedication to integrity, ethics, trust, and values.
- Proficiency and ease in using business productivity tools and cutting-edge technology in your everyday work; (We use Microsoft Office Suite and other internal applications & assessment-related tools.)
- Exceptional listening skills and the ability to keep up with evolving business needs through flexibility and rapid integration of new concepts.
- A basic understanding of applicable federal, state and local codes, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to physical & legal property changes.

In addition, any combination of education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position and demonstrates the following:- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible office or administrative support experience, including at least two (2) years of independent administrative or financial responsibility working within a group or team of professional, technical, or management staff
- Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding property assessment processes and the ability to interpret and apply those laws and regulations, or the ability to interpret other complex laws and regulations and apply those laws, and communicate this information in an understandable manner to taxpayers
- Two (2) years of experience using a computer and operation-specific software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as other database programs. This experience should include developing and working with complicated spreadsheets, using form/letter templates, receiving and sending information in these formats via email, and updating information in a mainframe database
- Organized, accurate, and attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to prioritize a large volume of work and to complete a multi-task workload both as a team player and independently
- Customer service experience to answer questions, resolve issues, and assist angry/hostile customers in a professional and courteous manner
- Data entry ability with 10-Key

WORK LOCATION: This position currently works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change.
The primary onsite location is King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, Washington 98104. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
