JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARYPerforms varied legal clerical work in the Town's Municipal Court system.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is an intermediate level administrative classification in the Court Administration job family and may be a continuing or entry level for career progression. Work is focused on mastering routine knowledge, tasks and assignments and follows standard methods and procedures for completing assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESThe following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.- Enters complaints/citations into applicable computerized systems.
- Provides customer service to defendants, attorneys, witnesses and other interested parties via a variety of communication mediums.
- Schedules trials and other court hearings.
- Provides administrative support during court sessions.
- Collects fine payments and fees.
- Creates and maintains case files and computer records.
- Provides case disposition information in accordance with established procedures and policies.
- Purges case records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining security of building, patrons, files and records.
- Performs related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE- Basic principles, methods and practices directly related to office operations;
- Standard office equipment including the computer and programs relevant to the performance of applicable duties and responsibilities;
- Customer service principles and practices.
SKILLS- Writing basic business correspondence and reports;
- Using computers and related software applications;
- Interpreting and applying applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations;
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
