Registration list may be used for future part-time County-wide temporary and permanent vacancies for this class of work during the life of the list. (Two hours per day - one hour before school starts and one hour when school ends when school is in session. Reporting times may vary depending on schedules at individual schools.)
There is no examination for this recruitment. Persons who qualify will be placed on the registration list in accordance with their availability to work in the various geographical districts on the Island of Hawai`i and conditions of employment.

Ensures the safe and orderly crossing of children and other pedestrians at crossing locations near assigned schools; and performs other related duties as required.
There are ten (10) immediate vacancies with the Hawai'i Police Department - Technical Services Division:
- two (2) permanent part-time vacancies in Hamakua/Honoka'a (Honoka'a Elementary and High School)
- one (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Ka'u (Na'alehu Elementary School)
- one (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Ka'u (Pahala Elementary School)
- three (3) permanent part-time vacancies in Kailua-Kona (Kealakehe Elementary School)
- one (1) permanent part-time vacancy in North Kohala (North Kohala Elementary School)
- one (1) permanent part-time vacancy in South Hilo (Hilo Union Elementary School)
- one (1) permanent part-time vacancy in South Kohala/Waimea (Waimea Elementary School)
- Supervises the crossing of children and other pedestrians at designated crossing locations near assigned school, using traffic control devices and appropriate hand signals, and/or traffic equipment.
- Demonstrates safe crossing habits for children and prohibits children from committing unsafe practices with regards to pedestrian safety.
- Monitors the traffic flow; reports unusual or adverse traffic conditions which would have an effect on pedestrian safety.
- Attends training sessions as required on procedures and equipment used in controlling pedestrian crossings.
- Performs other duties as required.
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- graduation from high school.
Substitution: If you do not have a high school diploma, we will substitute work experience on a year-for-year basis (i.e., if you completed the 11th grade, we will substitute one year of full-time work experience in lieu of not completing the 12th grade).
Ability to: read; give and receive oral and written instructions; respond quickly in emergencies; get along with others; learn and apply rules pertaining to pedestrian safety.
Physical Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
