The
Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Capital Projects Division is looking to fill two (2)
Assistant Construction Inspector positions
. The position works Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM and involves inspecting waterworks construction and installation projects to ensure materials, workmanship, and completed work meet approved plans, specifications, and Board of Water Supply standards. Depending on the project, the inspector may work independently on smaller assignments or assist a project engineer or senior inspector on larger, more complex projects.
What You'll Do:- Inspect construction of water system projects (meters, pipelines, structures).
- Check materials delivered to ensure they meet contract requirements.
- Verify lines, grades, and elevations; use leveling equipment as needed.
- Inspectpipe installation and testing.
- Review backfill placement for proper materials, compaction, and grade.
- Inspect falsework, formwork, trench bracing, and manhole construction.
- Inspect curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pavement work for reservoirs and booster stations.
- Coordinate with contractors on specifications, workmanship, and routine construction issues.
- Work with design engineers on design changes identified during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:One (1) year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.
Examples of Qualifying Experience:
Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trades supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Substitution:
Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience:
- An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
- A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license (type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
