The incumbent is responsible to perform various residential and commercial inspections on projects within the City of Springdale.
Safety/Security Sensitive Designation: This position is classified as safety/security sensitive under the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is therefore subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Possess a good working knowledge of all building codes adopted by the City along with the ability to apply this knowledge in the enforcement of the same.
- Demonstrate maintained knowledge of building code and authority to administer it by passing a yearly exam.
- Keep proper records of inspection.
- Work with the public, contractors, subcontractors, homeowners, and others involved in the construction process.
- Perform commercial building inspections; examine footing, framing, slab, sidewalk, approach, concrete, steel, and read blueprints.
- Perform residential building inspections; examine footing, steel, concrete, framing, slab, sidewalk, approach, roof, and read blueprints.
- Perform commercial plumbing inspections; examine under slab, rough in, and final top out of water, gas, and sewer fixtures and valves.
- Perform residential plumbing inspection; examine under slab, rough in, and final top out of water, gas, and sewer fixtures and valves.
- Perform commercial electrical inspections; examines under slab, rough in, final, temporary electrical, permanent electrical, yard lines, and grounding.
- Perform residential electrical inspections; examine under slab, rough in, final, temporary electrical, permanent electrical, yard lines, and grounding.
- Perform commercial mechanical inspections; examine under slab duct work, rough in, final, installation of duct work, A/C unit, and furnaces.
- Perform residential mechanical inspections; examine under slab duct work, rough in, final, installation of duct work, furnaces, and insulation.
- Maintain work vehicle; monitor fuel, oil, tires, cleanliness, water, and antifreeze.
- Answer questions posed by contractors regarding code and City ordinances
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or GED plus specialized training and/or additional college courses and 2 years of related experience and/or training.
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
- State of Arkansas Plumbing License
- State of Arkansas HVAC certification
- Electrical Inspector's License
- ICC certifications
- Must be proficient in the use of basic computer functions, a calculator, ground resistance tester, volt meter, continuity checkers, meggers, load resistor checkers, levels, tape measurer, wrenches and screwdrivers.
- Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, and offenses against children.
