Are you an energetic and service-oriented team player with a passion for public service? Ledding Library is seeking a Library Assistant to join the circulation team! Library Assistants deliver circulation services to the community, assist in library collection maintenance, and maintain a safe and welcoming library environment. They promote inclusiveness in all aspects of their work. This position works under the direction of a library manager.
Must be available to work Sundays 10am-5pm, Mondays 11am-6pm, and Wednesday 10am-6pm.
- Deliver circulation services to community
- Assist library patrons at service desks, over the phone, by email, or offsite
- Provide information, promote library services, and direct library visitors to appropriate resources and divisions
- Create library accounts, maintain patron records, and process payments
- Maintain confidentiality following library, city, county, and state laws and procedures
- Address and problem-solve patron account issues and concerns in a professional, constructive manner
- Assist in library collection maintenance
- Accurately shelve and organize materials in a timely manner
- Manage flow of materials to expedite checkout to patrons
- Process and prepare materials for checkout
- Assess billing for damaged and lost items
- Create, print, and search daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Maintain a safe and welcoming library environment
- Greet library visitors and monitor spaces proactively; inform person-in-charge of issues or problems
- Prepare library for opening and/or closing
- Maintain and clean items, shelving, and shared spaces as needed

Working Conditions: Library Assistants generally work in a library/office setting. They regularly and frequently interact with the public. Work routinely requires extended shifts at public service desks, where they answer questions and assist patrons with library accounts and materials. Work includes moving book crates and carts up to 40 pounds and positioning self at various heights to process materials. Work periodically includes stressful, emotionally heightened situations including emergencies, behavioral problems, intoxication, and health events.
