Prince George County is currently seeking a Director of Engineering and Utilities. Salary range $106,213- $169,941, with competitive benefit package. Prince George County, Virginia is a rural community of 42,657 residents (as of 2024) and is centrally located in southeastern Virginia and included in the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
This position will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing Utility Department activities; providing technical engineering expertise; coordinating work with County Administrator and department directors; maintaining records and files; preparing reports. here.Candidate must possess thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, methods and techniques; thorough knowledge of facility maintenance and repair practices; extensive knowledge of water and wastewater systems operations, capital planning and regulatory requirements, storm water management and soil erosion and sediment control; ability to organize, plan and supervise the work of subordinate personnel; ability to learn County Code related to Utility/Engineering operations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Supervisors and other government officials, associates and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare technical reports.
Candidate must possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering and extensive civil engineering and utilities experience. Candidate must have five years minimum experience as a Professional Engineer or equivalent and a minimum of five years of supervisory or managerial experience.Registration as a Professional Engineer in Virginia is favorable. If registered as a Professional Engineer out of State, Virginia certification may be required within one (1) year. Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check, to include fingerprinting.
