BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Appointments Director, the Appointments Specialist provides staff support for the Appointments Unit and Rules Committee members and staff in the Senate’s legislative appointment process, and also assists with the Committee’s process for Governor’s appointments subject to Senate confirmation. The Appointments Specialist interacts with Senate appointees and legislative appointment applicants, Governor’s appointments and the Administration, and interested parties within and outside the Senate regarding these processes.
DUTIES:
Assists the Appointments Director in the preparation of correspondence and documents related to the preparation, processing, and finalization of the Senate’s legislative appointments. Duties and responsibilities include assisting applicants with the navigation of the Senate’s appointments process; data entry, proofreading, and copy editing; scheduling interviews and meetings; coordinating background checks; preparing agendas and background materials for the Senate Rules Committee; and working with the Administration to facilitate the onboarding of legislative appointments. Also assists with the Senate’s confirmation process for Governor’s appointments, including the preparation of documents for Senate Rules Committee hearings and the Senate Floor.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates should possess considerable knowledge of the California State Legislature’s policies, procedures and calendar/deadlines. A general knowledge of the Senate’s confirmation and appointments process is preferred but not required. Manage a high-volume of work assignments simultaneously with multiple, competing deadlines; interact effectively and efficiently with internal and external parties; communicate clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing. Applicants must have excellent customer service and copy editing skills, be organized, detail oriented, and able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance.
The Senate’s core business hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience is required to reach the higher end of the salary range.

Salary range: $29.32 - $55.75
