The City of Healdsburg is hiring 2 part-time
Recreation Assistants to join the Community Services Department!
Recreation Assistants earn a salary range of $22.00 - $27.00 per hour. This a non-benefited, part-time position, up to 19 hours/week, no more than 960 hours per fiscal year.

Under general supervision, the Recreation Assistant provides critical administrative support to the Events & Facilities Division in a fast-paced, public-facing environment. This position requires a high level of organization, accuracy, flexibility, and professionalism, and is well-suited for an individual who takes ownership of their work and thrives while managing multiple priorities.
The Recreation Assistant plays a central role in coordinating special event and facility use permits, supporting internal review processes, and serving as a primary point of contact for event applicants, renters, and community partners. Accuracy, follow-through, and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the work directly impacts public events, facility operations, and customer experience. Additionally, this position also provides administrative and rental support for the Foley Family Community Pavilion.
The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 16–19 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend special events as needed.

- Manage the process for administrative review, routing, tracking, record keeping, and issuance of special event, park, film, and special use permits, ensuring deadlines, insurance, and compliance requirements are met.
- Take ownership of facility rentals and reservations across multiple parks and venues, maintaining accurate records and proactive communication with renters and internal staff.
- Serve as a consistent, professional point of contact for event applicants and facility users, providing clear guidance and timely responses throughout the permitting and rental process.
- Support the Events & Facilities Division with special event planning and logistics, including coordination of supplies, equipment, and internal approvals.
- Assist renters and community partners, with reserving, touring, and successfully utilizing the Foley Family Community Pavilion and other event venues.
- Monitor facility use and support fee collection, deposits, refunds, and subsidy requests with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Provide reliable administrative support to full-time staff, including data entry, enrollments, record maintenance, and front desk coverage at the Abel De Luna Community Center.
- Work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as required, demonstrating flexibility to meet operational needs.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Special event coordination and/or facility reservation and permitting;
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Standard office practices, procedures, and accurate record-keeping methods;
- Reservation software systems;
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and
- Customer service principles in a public agency.
Ability To
- Manage a high volume of administrative tasks, deadlines, and permit workflows with organization, accuracy, and minimal supervision;
- Adapt to changing priorities and maintain professionalism in a deadline-driven environment;
- Communicate clearly, confidently, and courteously with the public, event organizers, and internal staff;
- Exercise sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail in all aspects of work; and
- Deliver consistently high-quality work while balancing multiple responsibilities.
