Job Summary:
Operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purpose of maintaining, repairing and improving City parks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
- Mow the parks, apply herbicides, and perform various maintenance procedures on buildings and structures.
- Perform occasional night, weekend and holiday park patrol duties.
- Assist with special events and work with other municipal departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basic operational, technical or office processes.
- Working knowledge and the practical uses of construction methods, and the repair of parks and related sites.
- Skill and ability to proficiently and safely operate machinery to grade.
- Ability to work an irregular work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to respond during emergencies.
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable work attendance.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
- Loader, grader, roller, mowers, backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, brush cutter, chain saw, hand tools, trencher, bucket truck, hand tools and power tools.
- Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, safety vest, ear protection, steel toe boots, traffic cones, flags, respirator, dust mask, back support belt
Education, Certification and Experience Required:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Two years related experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to work an irregular work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Subject to 24 hour call during emergencies.
