Serves as the point of contact for all persons coming into the agency and via telephone. This position will also provide clerical support to agency staff. An employee in this class is responsible for answering complex programmatic questions from clients and resolving issues that would otherwise be forwarded to the caseworker. Work involves detailed, sensitive and confidential information. Employees in this class are the first point of contact for persons entering the agency, employee must be professional and courteous at all times. Work involves entering informational data into NC FAST, scanning all documentation and submitting tasks to caseworkers. Work involves working independently and will consult supervisor as needed. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Medicaid Program Evaluator.
- Answers incoming calls in a clear, friendly, and respectful voice.
- Directs callers to the appropriate person based upon their needs.
- Greets clients in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Interviews clients to determine the reason for their visit and assists clients in filling out the correct paperwork.
- Scans and distribute all documentation routed through the front desk.
- Opens and stamp all incoming mail, prepare outgoing mail documents; pick up and process courier mail at the drop-box.
- Processes all cash and checks received through mail and send receipts accordingly.
- Answers basic program questions, navigating through NCFAST to provide information to client.
- Enters required information into NCFAST and directing client to the appropriate worker or department if required.
- Answers questions regarding the services and/or resources available in Alexander County.
- Reviews documentation, scanning into NCFAST, sending tasks to the correct worker, make copies when appropriate and distribute accordingly.
- Responsible for logging and distributing returned Medicaid Cards; and incoming and outgoing FL2's.
- Picks up worker to client mail in-person.
- Files and maintains file rooms which includes purging records.
- Engages in enrollment and eligibility of Medicaid activities including intake, acceptance, eligibility determination, output, case maintenance, customer service and routine update/inquiries into NC FAST.
- Maintains and processes local hearing documents.
- Completes agency errands as needed, such as bank deposits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations is expected. Employee is required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during, and after the emergency. Employee is also required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

- Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or
- Completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
