Mono County is seeking an experienced, mission-driven leader to serve as Deputy Director of Health and Human Services – Public Health. The ideal candidate is an experienced public health leader with a strong background managing complex programs in a public agency setting. They bring proven expertise in administrative and fiscal oversight, staff leadership, and program planning, along with the ability to navigate state and federal public health requirements. This individual is a collaborative, politically astute communicator who can represent public health programs with confidence while advancing high-quality, equitable services for the Mono County community.

Mono County is a rural region with a dynamic community of 13,000 residents located in the eastern side of California’s Sierra Nevada range. Development is increasing in the area due to the consistent growth of the town of Mammoth Lakes. The Deputy Director of Health and Human Services – Public Health provides senior-level leadership for Mono County’s public health programs within an integrated HHS department. Reporting to the Department Director, this at-will executive oversees multiple public health and community health programs, manages budgets and staff, supports policy development, and represents the department with community partners, government agencies, and the Board of Supervisors. The role combines strategic planning, fiscal and personnel management, and public health expertise to ensure effective, compliant, and responsive services for the community.

Training:
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
- Candidates that possess a Master’s degree or Doctorate may qualify at a higher Range.
Experience:
Six years of increasingly responsible experience in public health, including two years of significant administrative managerial experience working in a large public agency.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California driver's license.
