This position is responsible for ensuring the Park is safe, well-maintained, and environmentally suitable for our community to enjoy. Additional duties assigned involve managing other capital and maintenance projects undertaken by the Port of Longview. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Engineering and supervises the Park Host(s) and contracted Park security.*Park Operations (60%):- Manage Willow Grove Park and Boat Basin including supervising Park Host(s) and contracted Park security.
- Oversee the general operations at Willow Grove Park including assisting and answering questions from the public, promoting interest and use of the Park’s facilities and coordinating special events and activities.
- Respond to public inquiries, complaints, and questions in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure the safety, accessibility and enjoyment of Park users.
- Establish schedules, monitor performance and provide feedback, guidance and training when necessary.
- Review and process Park documents and reports.
- Coordinate with Director of Engineering and Facilities and General Foreman on current and future projects.
*Project Management (40%):- Assist with management of Capital Improvement, Maintenance, and Public Works Projects by assisting with project planning.
- Develop engineer’s estimates, construction documents and specifications for projects.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors, consultants, and identified Port Labor through the General Foreman working on maintenance and capital improvement projects including forecasting manpower and equipment needs and communicating with appropriate Port staff.
- Attend pre-job meetings and obtain required materials and verify specifications are met.
- Supervise and inspect project construction to ensure conformance to all applicable specifications, standards, codes, and policies.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation and files.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, public administration, project management, or related field.
- 5+ years of park maintenance, project management, or construction management experience.
- 3+ years of supervision experience.
- Experience with managing a community park including event coordination and public interaction is preferred.
- A combination of education, training or experience will be considered.
Knowledge and skills: - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required for external representation, internal leadership, stakeholder negotiation, and reporting.
- Strong project management and delegation skills with an analytical and problem-solving focus.
- Exceptional customer service mindset.
- Proven de-escalation skills to handle tense situations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams.
- Exceptional multi-tasker who can balance both short- and long-term goals effectively.
- Working knowledge of construction and maintenance principles, including reading and understanding blueprints/construction drawings and principles is preferred.
Work Environment: - Willow Grove Park is open daily year-round. This position is subject to an open work week, meaning hours and days of regular shifts may vary and typically include weekends and holidays.
- In the winter season, work is typically performed in a normal office setting.
- Work is often performed in adverse weather conditions year-round.
Physical Requirements: - Extensive periods of time walking or standing on uneven surfaces or inclines.
- Occasionally move around the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
