This position, under the general supervision of the Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, provides administrative and analytical support to the Finance Department. This position offers hands-on experience in public sector budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and municipal operations. The intern will gain practical exposure to local government finance processes and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Assist with preparation and review of schedules, reconciliations, spreadsheets, journal entries and other tasks related to the City’s annual audit process.
- Assist with processes in Finance related to general ledger, accounts payable/receivable and other areas. Help reconcile financial statements and general ledger accounts.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, spreadsheets, and budget-related documents.
- Support audit preparation and documentation and utilize the City’s ERP system to process transactions and entries.
- Conduct basic financial research and data analysis and prepare summaries of research.
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance Department.
- Attend department meetings and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student for fall of 2026, earning a degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration or a similar field (upon selection, eligibility verification from the student’s academic advisor will be required).
- Applicants must have strong analytical skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- 18 years of age and a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
- If selected, successful completion of a background check, drug screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation will be required.
Starting pay is $20/hr. Expected to work Monday through Friday - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, approximately mid-May to mid-Aug. Work over school breaks may also be available.
