Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, the Athletics & Aquatics Coordinator provides leadership, planning, and operational oversight for citywide athletic, aquatic, and recreation programs. This position is responsible for the strategic development, coordination, and supervision of youth, adult, and senior sports programming; aquatic center operations; partnerships with Youth Sports Associations (YSA); volunteers; and contracted service providers. The role ensures high-quality service delivery, regulatory compliance, fiscal accountability, and safe, inclusive recreation opportunities for the community.
- Assists in preparation of the aquatic center and athletic department budgets for all areas, including personnel, supplies, services, and capital improvements.
- Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates athletic and aquatic programs for youth, adults, and seniors, including leagues, instructional programs, camps, special events, and community recreation activities.
- Directs day-to-day operations of athletic services, aquatic center operations, and YSA partnerships, including scheduling, facility usage, service coordination, and contract renewals.
- Works flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and special sporting events (e.g., football, basketball, kickball, softball, tournaments, and City-sponsored activities) as required by program needs.
- Makes recommendations and assists in the development of the department’s policy and procedure manual.
- Develops and manages athletic programs and park experiences.
- Plans, organizes, supervises, and conducts athletics and aquatic programs offered by the City of Stonecrest Parks and Recreation Department.
- Prepares financial reports for athletic association partnerships, in-house programming, and aquatic center operations.
- Directs and manages all subordinates in the daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal delivery of services for sports programming and seasonal aquatic center operation.
- Administers online registration of related activities.
- Record of athletic and aquatics staff certifications and ensure all staff maintain current certifications.
- Maintains pool, athletic fields, equipment, and grounds to meet all necessary program and regulatory standards.
- Coordinates open gym activities, recreation center events, and shared-use programming to maximize facility utilization and community access.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff and follow accident report procedures and policies.
- Planning, scheduling, and coordinating athletic events and practices.
- Ensuring compliance with athletic association rules and regulations.
- Overseeing the hiring, training, and evaluation of coaches and other athletic staff.
- Promoting sportsmanship and a positive team culture among athletes and coaches.
- Managing the use and maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment.
- Collaborate with communication to promote athletic and pool events.
- Works with team and league officials in the organization of rules and regulations for all programs and schedules.
- Records and maintains a record-keeping database of all activity, such as participation, results of league contest and assesses the need for change or expansion of existing programs.
- Delegates work to volunteer parent associations.
- Implements new innovative programs and activities for citizens.
- Conducts inspections of parks, athletic fields, and aquatic facilities to ensure safety and proper conditions are feasible for use.
- Holds coaches and volunteer orientation meetings for various youth and adult leagues.
- Markets and promotes the athletic programs and Aquatic Center activities within the community.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of athletic leagues, partnerships, programs, sports camps, and activities to determine the overall success of programs.
- Consults with others on complex problem situations and provides technical expertise.
- Provides progress and activity reports to senior management and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
- Attends GRPA athletic meetings and submits rosters as necessary.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration or a closely related field. Three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must obtain AFO (Aquatic Facilities Operator) or CPO (Certified Pool Operator) license within six (6) months from hire date. Certification in basic first aid/CPR/AED, and certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) are preferred, or must obtain both within one year. NAYS and/or GRPA certification required within ninety (90) days of employment.
