Position Summary
The Systems Administrator II role involves operating with minimal supervision, taking ownership of complex administrative tasks, implementing defined projects, and driving automation initiatives. This role bridges basic support with high-level design. The requirements are in addition to those of an SA I.
Essential Functions
- Advanced Administration: Install, configure, monitor, maintain, and document all server software across hybrid environments, including Windows Server, SQL Server/Azure SQL, and modern virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere or Hyper-V).
- Cloud & SaaS Management: Administer and ensure high-availability of Microsoft 365 (M365) services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams), including security, mail flow, and policy-based retention.
- Identity & Automation: Administer and automate the cross-forest, multiple-domain Active Directory and Azure AD infrastructure through advanced scripting and Group Policy Object (GPO) management.
- Scripting & Automation: Develop, test, and maintain robust scripts utilizing PowerShell and Python to automate repetitive tasks, system deployments, and reporting.
- Storage & BCDR: Administer and maintain modern storage solutions (e.g., SAN, NAS, or HCI). Manage and perform complex business continuity and disaster recovery operations, including advanced backup configurations and failover testing.
- Security Enforcement: Enforce system and network security policies in coordination with the IT Security Engineer, focusing on access controls, privileged identity management, and hardening configurations.
- Project Leadership: Lead small to mid-sized system and feature upgrades, including planning and executing scheduled off-hours service outages.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical assistance to System Admin I personnel.
- On-Call: Participate in scheduled off-hours maintenance and system upgrades as needed.

Required Education, Experience, & License/Certifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Computer Science or related field.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
- Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
- Three to five years of experience in any combination of experience and training that provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Operating Systems: Expert knowledge of Windows Server and strong practical knowledge of Linux/UNIX server administration.
- Scripting & Automation: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell and working proficiency in Python. Proven ability to identify and automate complex procedures.
- Virtualization: Deep, hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere or equivalent).
- Cloud & SaaS: Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365/Azure AD administration, including Intune/Endpoint Manager fundamentals.
- Security: Solid understanding of security concepts, patching methodologies, and EDR platform administration.
