SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Tax Supervisor and the Tax Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS: The position of Tax Auditor II in the City of Stow is classified by the Stow Municipal Civil Service Commission, is Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.
PURPOSE: Performs routine and complex clerical and administrative work in support of the Income Tax Division, including review of tax returns and performing a variety of reconciliation tasks
- Perform routine clerical and administrative work by answering the phone, receiving the public, retrieving voicemail, responding to email, providing assistance to taxpayers, and resolving routine conflicts and referring non-routine or complex matters to a supervisor.
- Process and review Stow Income Tax Returns and payments.
- Maintain electronic filing system in accordance with the department’s record retention schedule.
- Prepare and monitor delinquency documents, letters of collection, requests for additional information, and balance due statements.
- Reconcile department’s daily receipts.
- Reconcile W-2 and SW-3 forms.
- Monitor property lists to determine new accounts and maintain existing accounts.
- Comply with all City of Stow citywide and departmental policies, work rules and procedures.
- Perform additional routine clerical and administrative work related to the position as required.
- Must be bondable.
- Must have the ability to perform calculations with accuracy and demonstrate general math aptitude.
- Must have graduated from high school or have a GED equivalent.
- Must have basic training and experience in accounts receivable, bookkeeping or related skills.
- Must have an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
- Must be bondable.
- Must possess and maintain a Valid State of Ohio Driver's License throughout the term of employment.
- Must be able to work daytime and occasional evening hours as required.
- Must have the knowledge and skill to use a computer.
- Must have the ability to perform calculations with accuracy and demonstrate general math aptitude.
- Must possess good customer service skills, including the ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy, to answer routine and complex questions and to resolve routine and complex issues or conflicts with little or no supervisory intervention.
- Must be able to work in a sustained manner involving a variety of assignments.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills including the use of appropriate telephone etiquette and the ability to proofread documents.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with City employees and officials and the public.
- Must be able to read, interpret and apply the City of Stow’s Rules and Regulations and the City of Stow’s tax ordinance.
- Must be able to operate the tools and equipment listed below.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Municipal income tax experience preferred, but not required.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Tools and equipment used in the performance of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: personal computer, computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office, modern web browsers and database software), telephone, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard modern office equipment.
