Responsibilities - What you’ll do
Plans/organizes/directs a large and comprehensive recreation program including a variety of sports and indoor/outdoor recreational activities designed to contribute to the physical well-being and total rehabilitation of the offenders; Consults with recreation and custody personnel in developing and implementing a wide variety of recreation activities; coordinates the recreation program with the work and activities of all other facility departments; schedules/secures approval for activities, music groups, etc.
Supervises/evaluates/directs recreation and other staff assigned to the recreation program; provides in-service training for facility employees who may assist in recreation activities but are not formally assigned to the recreation department
Works with community groups/the general public/ facility superintendent/other staff members in the formulation and implementation of special and regular recreation and entertainment activities
Prepares recreational budgets/requests for purchase of equipment; maintains proper condition of buildings and equipment; ensures that all recreation areas are kept clean and in good appearance; receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed to insure compliance with facility policy/achievement of objectives/coordination with other phases of the total treatment program; performs other related work as assigned
Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
One or more years of experience as a Recreation Officer II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR
Seven or more years of experience, excluding volunteer experience, in the field of group recreation or physical education which included responsibility for organizing, implementing, scheduling, and/or overseeing recreation activities, including one or more years with responsibility for budgeting, purchasing, and supervision of staff
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, with credit hours in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, or closely related field, may be substituted for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year – a minimum of three years of experience, including one year of budgeting, purchasing, and supervisory experience is required)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
- A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
