Position Summary
This is an exceptional opportunity to join the Town of Vail Police Department as a Code Enforcement Officer, serving as a key ambassador for our community and our department. Code Enforcement Officers play a vital role in upholding Town ordinances, promoting voluntary compliance, solving problems, and building strong relationships with residents, business owners, and guests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Enforcing Town of Vail Municipal Ordinances through field inspections, investigations, documentation, and necessary follow-up.
Responding to community inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints from residents, guests, and business owners.
Assisting Vail Peace Officers and partnering with other Town departments.
Patrolling the town by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot.
Providing traffic control, citizen assists, and support during I-70 and Vail Pass closures.
Investigating code violations and minor traffic crashes; issuing non-moving traffic citations when appropriate.
Conducting VIN inspections.
Monitoring loading and delivery zones; issuing permits and providing assistance to commercial drivers and event coordinators.
Offering directions and general assistance to guests and residents.
Compiling statistics and assisting with Police Records coverage.
Performing all other duties as assigned.

In addition qualified applicants must be a minimum requirements:
Minimum of 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years works experience, preferably in public safety or guest services.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, ability to consistently have a positive attitude while dealing with the public.
- Ability to verbally de-escalate tense situations involving irate guests.
- Strong writing skills, ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Basic computer skills.
Knowledge of laws, codes, and legal procedures is preferred.
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to adverse weather conditions. Potential to work in hazardous surroundings exists at all times including exposure to vehicle traffic, vicious animals, stressful and emergency situations. Directs traffic on I-70 when needed. Must be capable of sitting in a vehicle and/or working on foot for extended periods. The position requires shift work, including holidays, weekends and may require additional work hours.
In addition all job offers will be contingent upon a satisfactory psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, drug screen, physical agilities course, background investigation and an interview with the Chief of Police.
