Introduction
The City of Racine is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Recreation Program Coordinator I – Clerical, Marketing & Special Events within the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services (PRCS) Department. This position plays an essential role in supporting front office operations, coordinating administrative functions, assisting with marketing efforts, and providing logistical support for departmental programs and special events. The role contributes to maintaining efficient operations, high customer service standards, and positive community engagement.
Position Purpose
This position provides primary front office support while planning, promoting, coordinating, and marketing recreation programs, special events, and outreach initiatives. The position works out of the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services main office and plays a key role in customer service, program promotion, and administrative support for department operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Serves in a seasonal clerical role through September 4, 2026, with a typical schedule of 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours may vary based on community outreach events.
Front Office & Administrative Support (Primary Focus)
- Provide front counter and telephone coverage for the PRCS main office.
- Greet visitors and respond to public inquiries regarding programs, facilities, rentals, and services.
- Route calls and inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Maintain accurate records, files, and program documentation.
- Assist with returned mail updates, database corrections, and record maintenance.
- Proofread public-facing documents for accuracy, grammar, and consistency.
- Assist with website updates and content organization.
- Support general office operations including copying, scanning, filing, supply monitoring, and document preparation.
Recreation Programming & Event Coordination
- Support the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of assigned recreation programs, special events, and community activities.
- Assist with developing program timelines and coordinating logistical arrangements.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports for assigned programs and events.
- Assist with requisitioning, tracking, and inventorying program supplies and equipment.
Marketing & Communications
- Creatively market department-wide programs and services through flyers, brochures, newsletters, website updates, social media posts, and community outreach.
- Coordinate layout and content for department webpage, program guides, brochures, and promotional materials.
- Proof and review marketing materials prior to distribution.
- Assist with content creation and scheduling of social media posts.
- Support community engagement efforts through public interaction and outreach.
Program Promotion & Outreach Support
- Support outreach efforts by assisting with event tabling to showcase departmental programs and employment opportunities.
- Prepare and organize materials for outreach events, including tablecloths, promotional merchandise, informational flyers, and display items.
- Assist with set-up, staffing, and breakdown of outreach tables at community events.
- Maintain inventory of outreach supplies and promotional materials to ensure readiness for upcoming events.
Conditions Of Employment
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a consistent and reliable attendance record.
- Work occasional evenings or weekends for programs or special events.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the PRCS Administrative Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent and One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in marketing, recreation programming or other associated fields. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Wisconsin Driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, programming or related field.

- Knowledge of community recreation interests and activities preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION:
Walking, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, writing, bending, and occasional outdoor work during events. Ability to withstand heat and cold during outdoor programs and activities.

Computer, telephone, copier, printer, postage meter, cell phone, two-way radio, department vehicle (if applicable), and miscellaneous office and event equipment.
